TYVN Information for Organisations

Thank you for your interest in working with the Tasmanian Youth Voice Network (TYVN).

TYVN supports meaningful youth participation in policy development, strategic planning, and decision-making across government, community and private sectors.

Members, aged 12 to 25, represent a diverse cross section of young people from all regions and backgrounds across Tasmania. They are supported to share their lived experience, insights and knowledge with key stakeholders to influence decisions, shape policy and programs, and drive positive change.

Engagement opportunities can be promoted to the entire network or targeted to specific members based on their interests or geographic location. The TYVN was co-designed by the Youth Network of Tasmania (YNOT), Brand Tasmania, and young Tasmanians, and is facilitated by YNOT.

What can the TYVN do for your organisation?

Today’s young people are navigating a rapidly changing world. As experts in their own lives, they bring valuable insights to the challenges and opportunities they face. When young people are meaningfully involved in shaping decisions that affect them, outcomes improve not only for them, but for their peers and the broader community.

Partnering with TYVN provides:

  • Innovative thinking and fresh perspectives
  • Valuable insights and a deeper understanding of young people’s needs
  • Stronger and more responsive policies and services.

“Involvement with the TYVN has helped me to gain a better understanding of how to approach, plan and execute youth engagement and participation activities – particularly ensuring young participants are adequately briefed and prepared, involved in a meaningful way (i.e. not tokenistic) and the importance of both closing the loop and providing opportunities for ongoing engagement.” ~ TYVN Government Stakeholder

" I really loved this group and being a part of helping organisations change and adapt what they are doing for young people. It has been an easy process and I have truly enjoyed the process, the experience and being involved in some amazing consultations and projects." ~ TYVN Participant (North-East)

About YNOT

For over 30 years, the Youth Network of Tasmania (YNOT) has been a strong, independent voice for young people aged 12 to 25 and our members. We bring deep knowledge, trusted relationships, and specialist expertise in youth participation to help organisations engage meaningfully with young Tasmanians.

Our vision is simple but powerful: a Tasmania where young people can achieve anything.

Young people are at the heart of everything that we do. We work closely with them to understand their ideas, priorities and lived experiences, and ensure those views are heard where it counts. From shaping government policy to leading local initiatives, we create a space for young people to speak up, lead, and influence decisions.

TYVN was shaped by insights from young Tasmanians’ during the Tasmanian Youth Story project, delivered in partnership with Brand Tasmania. The project received international recognition, winning Best Citizen Engagement at the 2024 City Nation Place Placebranding Awards.

YNOT is proud to be a trusted partner to government, community services and youth organisations across Tasmania. Whether you need support for a one-off project or long-term collaboration, YNOT can help you to deliver stronger and more inclusive outcomes with and for young people.

Our Youth Participation Approach

YNOT uses the Lundy Model of Youth Participation, based on Article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). It presents a balanced, accessible and holistic engagement approach that emphasises essential standards for safe, ethical and genuine youth participation.

Our Commitment to Child Safety

YNOT is committed to upholding the safety, wellbeing, and rights of children and young people. All YNOT staff hold a Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (RWVP) and follow strict child safe policies and practices.
