Tasmanian community and industry peak bodies collectively call for a more comprehensive list of minor modifications to be included with the proposed amendments to the Residential Tenancy Act 1997 (Tas). 

YNOT has renewed calls for the State Government to prioritise the housing needs of young Tasmanians as Homelessness Week kicks off around the country today.

Over one hundred and twenty young Tasmanians aged 12-25 years will travel to Launceston today to voice their concerns, contribute ideas and identify solutions at the 2024 Tasmanian Youth Forum (TYF) on Housing. Key findings from the event will be used to inform future policy and initiatives impacting young people living in Tasmania. 

Youth Week Tasmania, the State’s largest celebration of young people, kicks of today with exciting events planned across Tasmania. With events running from Monday, 8 April – Sunday, 14 April 2024, young people will have the chance to attend live music, skate and scoot competitions, festivals, movie nights, street art workshops, gaming events and more!

The Youth Network of Tasmania (YNOT), the peak body for young people aged 12-25 years, has joined with key advocacy groups on National Youth Homelessness Matters Day (YHMD) to urge governments to commit to key actions which will deliver better outcomes for young people experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness.

The Youth Network of Tasmania (YNOT) has recently released a Discussion Paper: Becoming an adult: the experience of young Tasmanians today for public consultation. YNOT CEO, Tania Hunt said, “this public consultation process provides an opportunity for all Tasmanians to provide feedback on how we can better support young people to successfully transition into adulthood.”.

Members of the Tasmanian Youth Employment Alliance have thrown their support behind the Beacon Foundation and TCCI who are calling for the State Government to establish a taskforce to help guide the development of the States first ever Youth Jobs Strategy. The Youth Employment Alliance, an initiative of the Youth Network of Tasmania (YNOT), is a unique collaboration of experienced youth focused services, that work collectively to elevate the voices of young Tasmanians 15-25 years in addressing barriers to economic participation and further education and training in Tasmania.

A summary report for young people developed in collaboration with the South East Youth Engagement Project Youth Advisory Group. 

What would make the South East a better place for young people to live? This is the question posed to young people aged 12-19 years and service providers in the Glamorgan-Spring Bay, Sorell and Tasman Local Government Areas between January and March 2024. The report presents key findings and recommendations, and is envisaged that this report will inform the development of new initiatives and maximise existing resources throughout the South East to support increased participation of young people in the region.

YNOT's response to the Tasmanian Government State Budget Community Consultation 2024/25.

A youth-friendly version of the Pathways to Adulthood Consultation Report 2023. 

The 2023 Pathways to Adulthood consultation was undertaken to understand the experiences of young Tasmanians 18-25 years as they transition into adulthood and independence. This report presents feedback received from young Tasmanians, including the challenges and opportunities they face as young adults, the priority areas they want addressed, and their ideas and solutions that could make this pathway to adulthood smoother. 

The Tasmanian Youth Story shares the unique experiences of what it's like being a young person living in Tasmania — the good and the bad. The story it tells will help decision-makers better understand what young people want from Tasmania, making it a fairer and finer place for everyone. Further information regarding the consultation methodology and findings are reported separately.

Tasmanians are invited to share their thoughts, ideas, and suggestions about how young people 18-25 years can be better supported as they transition to adulthood and independence. This Discussion Paper and Consultation Process builds on what we learnt and heard through a review of academic literature, mapping of existing programs and policies, and feedback from young people and stakeholders working in community, youth and government sectors.
